Photo Shoot No Dispute
I stumbled upon an interview with a celebrity a week or so ago. I wasn’t sure how to approach this subject, but it needs to be addressed.
This problem revolves around the modelling industry. The link to my source is at the bottom of the page.
However the problem regardless of previous milestones. This includes awards, certificates, diplomas, published work. The practice I’m talking about is requiring aspiring models sometimes as young as 14 to pose for photos nude or with nude elements to them. This is unethical in many ways. A photo shoot is exciting, it can do wonders for mental health. They can even help someone who doesn’t see themselves as attractive, feel glamorous. Even see themselves in a way they never imagined. The opposite result from forcing unwanted exposure. (example: posing nude) It can make the subject (in this case a model) feel uncomfortable. This can have undesired results on the shoot itself. It can be really hard to work with a client or model this way.
Professional photographers deal with models feeling uncomfortable all the time. The models feeling comes from being in front of the camera, and potentially a stranger if they have never worked with the photographer before. This feeling comes from being in front of the camera. Let’s face it getting in front of a camera can be challenging and takes courage. People are worried about what will be captured including flaws. This phase can vary depending on the individual. Some people sit in front of a camera and they don’t go through this phase, other times it can take 45 minutes or more. Time spent getting the best pictures can relieve the stress on the model, Now we are rolling. This is when the shoot can start.
Now imagine doing this same shoot with required nudity. Most models are going to experience a harder time easing up, this is an unpleasant experience. They may feel used or like an object.
There is nothing wrong with the human body or deciding to do this kind of shoot by yourself. while boudoir photography due to the nature of it can be frowned upon, It is classy and artistic when done right. Done right this is incredibly empowering. It can build confidence and even be romantic. I urge everyone to use caution, read through contracts carefully. Take precaution as a photographer or model. An extra guideline would be to have a third party available. Just to make sure no boundaries are crossed.
as a model peruses their career they will encounter situations that feel uncomfortable. Find another photographer. There are plenty of photographers that wont ask you to step out of your comfort zone. you don’t need nudity to have breathtaking photos captured of you!
